Description

You will cycle in the Campidano of Oristano, a generous territory irrigated by River Tirso and by Cabras pond, and on the way to the volcanic mountain masses of Montiferru and Monte Arci. Water is an essential element that gives life and provides well-being. It flows among the ancient channels of Fordongianus thermal baths of Roman origin, and it becomes a valuable resource to preserve inside the Santa Cristina well. Not only do the minerals enrich the local sources of water coming from the Park of San Leonardo di Siete Fuentes, but, following a millenary manufacturing process, they also become obsidian - a refined and strong volcanic glass known as “oro nero” that embellishes the jewels and protects the Sardinian population since the pre-Neolithic age. Aged in Contini's humid cellars, the local wine will pamper you after you've explored the slopes and coasts of this splendid central-western area of Sardinia.

Highlights:

  • Breathe in the healthy air of the provincial capital of central-western Sardinia
  • Get to know the ancient history and culture of the Nuragic civilization by stopping at the Pozzo di Santa Cristina
  • Relax on the renowned beaches of the Sinis Peninsula and dive from the famous arch of S'Archittu
  • Train between the paths of Montiferru and Monte Arci, the mountain peaks of the volcanic origin of the Campidano di Oristano, and refresh yourself with the mineral water of Siete Fuentes

Arrival and transfer to the hotel: your tour begins in the beautiful town of Oristano. You can reach it from the airport on your own or opt for a private transfer with one of our partners. If you prefer a more sustainable transport choice, you can take a direct train from Cagliari airport to comfortably arrive in the city within two hours. Check-in and overnight stay at Hotel Mistral 2**** Oristano: former capital of the independent state of Arborea and even earlier a Nuragic center frequented by the Punics and Romans, Oristano is currently the main city of central-western Sardinia. Every year the city takes part in the tradition of the Sardinian carnival with the celebrations of La Sartiglia, dressing Su Componidori and other protagonists with solemn costumes and masks on the saddle of adorned horses. At the table, on the beach, or in the hinterland near Oristano, well-being, and relaxation are never missing, as are adventures on the mountainous dusty roads that test the resistance of the more enthusiasts.

Breakfast at Hotel Mistral 2****: refuel your energy with the hotel's continental buffet, tailored to the needs of sports enthusiasts with plenty of fresh fruit. Ready for five days of training among the landscapes and delicacies of the Campidano? You are now ready to embark on a circular route with several stops between the Roman baths near Fordongianos, Paulilatino town, and Santa Cristina well. Near the village of Paulilatino, you can admire one of the most suggestive architectural and monumental complexes of the Nuragic age, magically linked to the cult of water. The Pozzo di Santa Cristina remained intact for 3,000 years and it now witnesses how central water is to ensure well-being and prosperity in every aspect of daily life - healthy and fertile crops, good food, and community. Return and spare time in the evening.

Breakfast at Hotel Mistral 2****: enjoy! Are you ready to cross Monte Arci? Put yourself to the test among the paths of the largest obsidian deposit on the island, so abundant in the Neolithic period as to attract other populations that reached the island to stock it up. You will travel 120 kilometers crossing the humid pond of San Giovanni and Cabras and glimpsing the basaltic promontory of Capo Frasca. You will have plenty of rest areas and parks to stretch your legs and grab a bite to eat. Return to the Hotel and dinner as desired.

Breakfast at Hotel Mistral 2****: the destination of excellence of the Sinis Peninsula, named Eden by the European Commission awaits you! This area is protected to ensure the well-being of all species. Here the Mediterranean scrub and oceanic Posidonia thrive undisturbed as the aromatic rosemary and the wild asparagus. Sea partridges and Sandwich Terns will follow you as you cycle between the coast and the hinterland. Uncontaminated nature comes to life among the inlets and cliffs of the Capo San Marco promontory. Why don’t you take a swim off the wonderful quartz beaches of Is Arutas and Mari Ermi? Wine Tasting in the Cabras cellars: first Salvatore, then Attilio, today Paolo and his nephews Alessandro and Mauro: the Contini winery has grown and matured like wine through the passion and commitment of four generations. Free time in the evening.

Breakfast at Hotel Mistral 2****: coffee will give you extra energy to face the 100 km route. Saddle up! After tasting the local fine wines yesterday, a fresh pocket lunch of regional products awaits you halfway through this journey on the way to S'Archittu beach, but only after wandering around the biodiversity of the Montiferru sierra. Here the hiking competition Montiferru Winter Trail takes place yearly on the top of Mount Urtigu. In some areas, the Montiferru forest is interrupted due to the continuous activities of grazing, fires, and various deforestations that threaten the holm oak trees. Despite everything, thanks to the presence of the massif of Montiferru and also of Monte Arci, the Campidano of Oristano creates genuine products enriched in nutrients and lends its wide valleys for any type of exploration. Pocket lunch at San Leonardo Park: the water, coming from the rains and snowfalls in Montiferru, flows between the fountains of the village immersed in the park. You will be able to savor its taste during the lunch break scheduled between the first and second half of the trail. Swimming at S'Archittu and returning to the hotel.

Breakfast and check-out at Hotel Mistral 2****: treat yourself with one last snack before checking out. After this tour, you will leave Oristano regenerated and with many pics in your phone gallery. If you need to get to the airport, don't worry! Please let us know and our partners will take you to your destination.
