Description

We will meet in front of Biking Sardinia headquarters in Alghero and start our tour cycling along the seashore to reach Punta Negra pine forest. Here we will climb uphill to Mount Doglia, the highest peak of Porto Conte Natural Park. At the top there is a breathtaking panoramic viewpoint over the Gulf of Alghero and the Natural Park. We will continue downhill to reach the fascinating promontory of Porto Conte. We will visit the lighthouse and discover the old ruins of the Second World War, hidden behind rocks and green bushes. It is still possible to see the graffiti left by soldiers inside the barracks and the remains of the cannon platforms. Back in the saddle, we will cycle through the forest to reach the beautiful beaches of Lazzaretto and Bombarde. If you want, we can stop at the Nuraghe Palmavera (optional, additional charge needed) and visit the prehistoric village of the Nuragic civilization. At the end we will cycle to our final destination, the Wine Resort.

Sardinia enjoys plenty of hot sunshine and blue skies throughout the year, especially during the summer months with temperatures sometimes going up to as high as 40 degrees centigrade. There is very low rainfall per annum, and the sun usually arrives in April and extends into October. Spring and autumn are an ideal time for exploring the richness of Sardinia’s wilderness when the temperatures tend to hover around the low to mid 20 degrees centigrade. At the beginning and end of the season(in March and late October) the weather can be a little less predictable and there could be some cooler days. Please check with our team as to how the trip might be affected at this time, as this can differ from year to year.

Generally there is low traffic. However, especially during the weekends in some areas the traffic can be annoying. Some of the provincial roads in Alghero during the summer tourist periods are fairly busy. Please be careful while you drive, stay always in line and not in group, follow your touring guide and in case of assistance stop it out of the road lane.

Asphalt is in general in very good or excellent conditions. Flat tire or rim damages are not a very common issues, and absolutely rarely are related to the quality of asphalt. The only suggestion we always give to minimize the possibility of flat tires is, if you stop to take photos or rest at a side of the road, not to take the bike outside the asphalt bed as, especially in some particular periods of the year such as in spring, it's very common to get a flat tire due to little pins lost by the vegetation. In case of ride in unpaved roads your bikes are well equipped with tubeless tires.

We always recommend helmet wear and safe ride! For further details about Biking Safety Rules, please follow this link: https://bikingsardinia.com/rental/biking-safety-rules/ About water: in the agriturismo tap water is drinkable and in the public fountains as well, in other cases ask your tour leader.
