Are you ready to embark on a trip to Sardinia on your bike? During this weekly tour, we will discover the North-West of Sardinia. The density of its population is one of the lowest in Europe, and the cities are no larger than 100,000 residents (except for Cagliari). Yet Sardinia’s small villages are just as important as its greater cities because of their history, local culture, economic development, and centennial traditions. On a tour between beaches and hinterland, maritime villages and ancient cities, we will take you to uncover the most renowned centers of the North-West of Sardinia, where the traffic stress will become just a distant thought… Let’s go!
Highlights:
- From the sea to the hinterland, you will cycle along wonderful panoramic roads with little traffic to bother your speed
- You will sleep in excellent 3/4 star Bike Hotels carefully selected by us
- You will visit and stay in the pretty historic cities of Alghero, Bosa, Sassari and Castelsardo, taking a little rest in the charming Tresnuraghes Village
- You will relax at La Pelosa beach, famous for its soft and white sand
Welcome to Sardinia! Upon your arrival, please keep in mind that the tour will start from here. You can opt to reach the city on your own or request a private transfer. Enjoy the Spanish atmosphere of the small "Sardinian Barceloneta" by staying in one of our selected Bike Hotels. You just have to choose the one that best suits your needs: Country resort ****, Hotel Alma***, Hotel Angedras ***.
Steer along one of the most beautiful roads in Europe and, bend after bend, let the wonderful panorama of this coastal road connecting Alghero to the city of Bosa take your breath away. 50 km of steep cliffs overlooking the blue sea, with rest areas to stop and take a few shots! Also called the "City of colors", Bosa will win you over just by observing it in the distance, even before crossing the bridge that marks the entrance to the historic center. Many small colored houses, tumbled down on the hill, frame the ancient Malaspina Castle which can be seen on the top of the burg. Down below river Temo divides the city in two and narrow alleys and staircases provide a suggestive view of the stream. River Temo is the only navigable canal in Sardinia. After taking your time to enjoy the thousand shades of Bosa, you can get again on your bike and ride towards the charming village of Tresnuraghes, where you will spend one night at the Villa Asfodeli Bike Hotel. To reach Tresnuraghes you'll ride inside the beatiful historical region of the Planargia, through the villages of Modolo and Magomadas on the way to the wonderful and famous Porto Alabe Beach. Check-in and overnight stay at Hotel Villa Asfodeli in Tresnuraghes.
After a restoring night and breakfast in Tresnuraghes, it's time to leave behind the little village to explore the hinterland of Sardinia. You'll ride to the North towards the city of Sassari, in a landscape of meadows, fields, tiny villages and no traffic back roads. As Cagliari, Sassari is the provincial capital and the hub of the island's economy, so we can safely say that it has been the most important city in northern Sardinia even prior to the development of Sardinia tourism. You will find yourself in front of a city with a thousand nuances and contradictions: a city animated by offices, services for the public and industrial areas. It also guards in its heart a suggestive historic center, made up of small shops, ancient noble palaces and places for aperitivo. Definitely not to be missed is a visit to the city Cathedral (the Cathedral of San Nicola), episcopal see and a church with a rare beauty. Check-in and overnight stay at Hotel Leonardo Da Vinci***.
Crossing the hinterland of the district of Anglona, let’s ride towards the ruined village of Castelsardo, one of the prettiest burgs in Italy. Due to its strategic position, Castelsardo has always played a prominent role in the history of the dominations in the island since its foundation. On clear days you will be able to see the island of Asinara from afar and Capo Testa on the opposite side, by looking from the panoramic terrace at the top of the castle. Here you can marvel at its greatness and also wander the exhibits of the Weaving Museum. Stroll in the alleys of the town, hang out among the craft shops, and enjoy the aperitivo overlooking the sea at sunset. Check-in and overnight stay in Castelsardo at one of our Bike Hotel Partners: Hotel & SPA Riviera****, Hotel Bajaloglia****.
Heading West along the North coast of Sardinia, you will reach the tiny seaside village of Stinitino - the farthest point of the island. This town is mainly famous for its tourism. It was actually a humble fishing village back in the 1800s, and it has become the tourist attraction which we now love only after the launch of Sardinian tourism development plan beginning in 1960 with the construction of Costa Smeralda in the East. The gulf of Stintino is also a tourist port and from here it is possible to embark to reach the beautiful Asinara, an island sheltered by coves and dreamy seabeds. Taking the boat you can explore its prosperous vegetation, animals and history. Check-in and overnight stay at one of our Bike Hotel Partners: Hotel Cala Reale***, Hotel Silvestrino***.
We are almost at the end of the tour. After enjoying the beach and the natural beauty of Stintino, all that remains is to get back in the saddle of your bike and turn towards Alghero! After an intensive week of cycling it's time to slow down... take your time to go to the beach for a dip, enjoy the sunset on the iconic silhouette of Capo Caccia resembling a sleeping giant and, if you still have a few hours left, visit the promontory and Porto Conte Natural Park. heck-in and overnight stay in Alghero at one of our Bike Hotel partners: Country resort ****, Hotel Alma***, Hotel Angedras ***.
You can opt for reaching the airport on your own or by booking a private transfer with one of our partners (we will take care of everything). We thank you for choosing us and we look forward to seeing you again soon for your next bike tour here in Sardinia.
